A very happy Sunday to you!  Jodi Jarvis-Therrian is here with another episode of Dog Blessed on the Muskegon Channel brought to you by Must Love Dogs Pet Boutique in Grand Haven, The CBD Store of Michigan and of course Clock's Timeless Pets.  It's a weekly show dedicated to pets, pet lovers and making sure that they have the best lives possible together.

This week, Jodi is doing a deep dive on collars for pets.  They have many uses.  Jodi likes to keep Olaf's on so he can wear his tie, or have his ID tags readily available for people to know who he's going home to should he manage to take a trip....it's a nice accent piece and he's always handsome.  One thing she doesn't do, or recommend is putting a leash on the collar because while it's pretty common place, a lot of people don't often stop and think about the mechanics of a collar around the neck and that's where the education and expertise of a Certified Dog Trainer kicks in.

The health of the dog is the first concern as we've talked in the past.  Around the neck, when put under a load of stress...the collar on a dog can cause some problems.  Think of what can happen if a dog is provoked or excited?  How about the stress caused if the collar is too tight or not adjusted over time?  If a dog takes off like a shot to do what dogs do.... "Squirrel!!",  when they reach the limit of their distance, that rope is doing to be drawn taught and a yank is going to occur?  Now, to put that into perspective....would you want a yank around your windpipe and vertebrae that can cause permanent, lifelong damage?  Didn't think so.  Jodi is going to explain just how much more beneficial a harness that goes around the front quarters of a dog is and why you should have one.

It's an oversight most wouldn't even think about and that's why we're here.  Sometimes, the advice is a little more detailed and sometimes it's "ya, why didn't I think of that".  The harness around the front quarters is a much more viable way to help your dog remain in control without risking injury to bones or nerves.  It's the idea that a professional dropping some knowledge on ya that brings us back week after week, so you too can enjoy the best life with your pet!  Our thanks again to the CBD Store of Michigan, Clock's Timeless Pets and Must Love Dogs Pet Boutique in Grand Haven.  Don't forget too about the BIG Dog Blessed event coming up aw Winston Speedway!!  PUMPKNS AND PAWS
