It's a legendary evening for a cause like no other and in 2022 the purpose couldn't be more important. Every Woman's Place of Muskegon will be hosting the annual Power of the Purse event at the Barclay Place Event Center on October 13th and the evening of fundraising and awareness about domestic and sexual assault will be headlined by prominent community members doing a runway show featuring luxury purses up for auction with the proceeds going to help the work that Every Woman's Place does for survivors and there's a special mission this year to focus on a SANE Unit.
A SANE Unit is an acronym. SANE is short for sexual assault nurse exam. Currently in Muskegon, the survivor of a sexual trauma has to head to an emergency room to be examined for a police report. I hope you stopped there for a second and thought about that. The unspeakable has just happened...and the best we currently have to offer is "take a number and wait over there". You get the idea I hope.

Hopefully, in the video the idea of the SANE Unit got through to ya. A private place away from the noise and clutter where a victim of the abuse can be met in a way that's a little less intrusive to talk about the most intrusive thing that could possibly have taken place. It's an ask that should have been taken care of years ago and should too, be available in every community anywhere in the country. We deserve that kind of treatment here in Muskegon for our most vulnerable at their most vulnerable moment.
