Erika Bell is a little on the shy side.  She is also pretty tireless when it comes to giving kids something to do that will not only keep them occupied and out of questionable activities, she does it in a way that fills their day with fun and engagement in ways that others might not think of.  We first met Erika back in 2019 when she was putting on the Kool Kids concert at McGraft Park.  Now a days, she's got an entire building and more to bring kids together for a great time as well as some snacks and even outdoor fun!

I like to fancy myself as someone who knows a little more about town than most, but meeting up with Erika took me to a place I had never been. The COGIC Center is back, tucked away in behind Getty Street at 2140 Valley Street, and it's a pretty expansive place. There's a community center, a church and a former school there with a large outdoor park and a giant indoor gym.  Erika and her team from Rolling Video Games/ Creative fun utilize the space that was the school for their "Fun Friday's".  Kids can come and be a part of all different kinds of awesome activities.

The gym is fully functional and there's never a reason to stop playing basketball. Down the hall....you'll find the "Baking Room" where kids can get some experience in some of the simpler areas of the craft.  How about a trip to the "Beauty Salon".  We filmed in this room and if your nails need to be done or maybe an up-do....they got it.  Laser tag, Jelly Ball outside, bounce houses, Nerf gun rooms....this place is an 8 year old's dream come true.  There is a nominal fee for the adventure.  $15 bucks, comes to $5 an hour for all of this activity and the cost helps provide the snacks as well as keep things moving for Erika.

At the end of the day, it's kids Erika is working to reach.  To give them a safe space where they can meet up and enjoy time away from that screen is one of the most important parts of it all and to help build future generations who will one day look back on the adventures they had at that "old school down the road" is the long term goal.  Erika does wonderful things in Muskegon, we wish her the very best on the Fun Friday's!!
