Last week, Shon introduced us to a concept that's kind of taken hold in other areas of the country and is working it's way in here more and more, mediation.  Mediation is a process of coming to an agreement that is binding and settles disputes between parties while not leaving the decisions up to someone, like a judge, who makes a decision with no attachment to the outcome.  Mediation gives you more say in the final decision.

Mediation has a few ways of coming in to play.  Disputing parties can request it opposed to litigation.  It can be part of the proceedings leading up to a court case.  A court can even decide that mediation is the best solution compared to it's own.  There are some factors of course, including having trained and professional mediators involved in the process.  Shon explains it all and even some options here in Muskegon that can help in a variety of legal specialties.

Mediation might not be the perfect solution for every situation, every case is unique and the first step in any case is to consult an attorney.  Shon Cook is well practiced in both litigation and mediation and explains how it all works together this week be it court ordered or initiated between parties.  Take a listen.

The decisions can be hard. As Shon points out, no one gets to mediation or litigation when they are getting along.  The decisions don't however have to be left up to the Judge.  You can work to have an agreeable outcome and resolution with the help of professionals outside the courtroom.  A call to Shon Cook can get it started. 231-894-0909.  You can This email address is being protected from spambots.
