We've it's been about a year now with our sponsor and friend Shon Cook who's been gracious enough to help our audience understand some of the in's and out's of the legal world which can quite honestly be confusing and intimidating at times. When we need to employ the assistance of a lawyer, let's be honest, it's generally not at the time when things are sailing along with no problems to report and we're all managing to keep our heads above water. Generally, if attorneys are needed, we're in over out heads a teeny tiny little bit and their specialty is worth it's weight in gold.
We're going to revisit a topic today that we talked about early on when it comes to Family Law proceedings and that's discovery. Discovery is the part of the process where the parties disclose their assets so that a decision can be made as to how things will be divided up in the final judgement. It can feel like a very invasive process. Financial, relationships, kids....they are all usually asked about in the 35 questions allowed in discovery in Michigan...plus the "sub questions" which can add up quick too. These are the elements too that Shon heavily advocates the use of mediation for. Settling all of this on your terms before presenting this to a judge is so beneficial and truly gives you a better voice in the outcome!
For now, let's take a listen to Shon and her thoughts on discovery on this weeks segment of Saturdays With Shon on the Muskegon Channel.
Not the most comfortable time of life for sure, but having the right experts on hand to help, and having them there in advance to explain in plain English why you need them there...this is what makes Shon such an incredible asset to our work and community. She takes the time to humanize what seems impossible to most as they face some of life's dilemmas. If you need to contact Shon, please call 231-894-0909.
