It's a common practice in the legal world, but the experience for someone who's not part of the day to day workings of legal proceedings it can feel very intimidating and the process of getting you there can catch you out of left field if you are not prepared for the invite.  This is why Attorney Shon Cook comes by and shares the less intimidating side of the legal world with us weekly so if ever you need assistance, hopefully it won't be as much of an anomaly for any of the participants.

By definition, a deposition is "the process of giving sworn evidence."  That's all there is to it.  It's a conference where both sides of a situation meet up and talk about the facts of the case, under sworn testimony with a court reporter on hand to make sure that what's said is of record and as the case moves forward to the judge, what's been said can be submitted for the decision and it can also be used in some situations in a cross examination situation where an attorney can refer back to a certain instance in that deposition if what's being told on the stand, doesn't quite match what's been written down before.

With any legal situation, our advice here is for general use purposes.  It's to help people understand legal process' and terminology.  Please discuss any specifics you may have with your attorney if you have them.  For now, let's learn about what happens in a deposition with Shon Cook.

So, back to the beginning now that we've heard a little more. When I was asked to be a part of a deposition, I was sent registered mail that I had to sign for in the matter of a dispute I thought was long past.  Kind of why I led with the idea of things can be intimidating a little.  Hey, most folks won't ever have to be part of a deposition and that's a good thing.  But, if you are, know that it's part of a process and that great attorneys like Shon have a job to do and that's find the best possible results for their clients.  If you need an attorney, please, call Shon at 231-894-0909.  You can E-MAIL Shon.  Or, click on her banner below to visit her website.
