Welcome to the weekend and another visit with Attorney Shon Cook on the Muskegon Channel.  More often than not, Shon digs deep into the years of expertise she's got in her field.  She shares insight and wisdom on what she's been through and she's up to date on all that's coming as well.  She's in both litigation and mediation and the value of what she brings is priceless.

This week, we're talking a little less weighty of a subject.  The courts and their adaptation to the digital world.  The pandemic forced a lot of change, some of which brought forth lasting change for the better.  Areas of legal proceedings have been streamlined immensely.  Some of the "simple stuff" can be handled efficiently through digital means and save a lot of time and travel.  Other elements of the judicial system are not quite as easy to manage through the modern platforms like a trial where a defendant needs to be seen in person as part of a decision.  Is their body language showing signs of an addiction or another problem that should be a red flag to a judge?

While the pandemic isn't over by any means, it is in a low point, numbers fluctuate some and some courts are a little more quick on the draw about getting back to it than others depending on the data they are given in their areas.  It's a work in progress for sure still.  Shon describes some of what's right and some of what could use some refinement as well as a lighter hearted moment or two of "what's been seen" in a Zoom trial you might not believe......take a listen.
