It's been a couple of weeks since we visited with Attorney Shon Cook. She's an amazing sponsor and contributor to our work as she explains some of the incredibly technical legal stuff in a way that's understandable for everyone. Like any specialized field, when it gets to be too complicated with the jargon and language that those in the industry use, people are easily intimidated. To make it understandable is the goal weekly with Shon.
This week, we're talking about parenting time around the holidays and the stress that can come with the different schedules and the idea of flexibility or inflexibility depending on the situation between the parents and the seemingly impossible holiday schedules. If it becomes an annual fatwa.....well, the best advice Shon has is to start early, because right now....it might be a little difficult to get in front of a judge and get a matter settled. Yes, there's a schedule that our courts work on and while emergencies pop up and can be handled...this can probably be planned in advance. There are some thoughts too about the was some others Shon has worked with have made things work and some thoughts too on when the idea of compromising runs out, where to head to get the direction you need. Take a listen.
If you are able to manage shared time with kids, awesome. Some can't and quite often, the kids end up in the middle. Tough spot. The legal system and the help of an attorney is there to help establish the path for the best for everyone involved. If a decision couldn't be made between 2 people and help was asked from litigation, mediation or any other kind of third party.....it would probably be best to stick to that. Shon also had some great ideas this week to make sure that the focus stayed on the kids because, after all, she's a mom too.
