Like most we imagine the words "Confrerie Sommelier" are a little bit out of the day to day dialogue.  Jeff "Krunch"Kretschmer  isn't your every day kind of contributor we're introducing you to here on the Muskegon Channel however.  Confrerie Sommelier is a title earned by few when it comes to the distinguished palate and certification it takes to distinguish the subtleties of flavors in beverages and how they are best paired with foods that they accompany.  His resume is impressive working as a Wine Steward for some of our areas bigger retailers and Jeff too has been at the business of sharing his talents and tastes with audiences in his show "Straight From the Bottle".  He's been gracious enough to bring that experience to our audience here. 


Let's give you a quick history lesson. From Wikipedia - "A sommelier, or wine steward, is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional, normally working in fine restaurants, who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing. The role of the sommelier in fine dining today is much more specialized and informed than that of a wine waiter."  Also from Wikipedia - "The Confrérie, in its present form, was founded in 1934. Its origins derive from the earlier Order of the Free-Drinkers of Burgundy (Ordre des Buveurs Libres de Bourgogne). The initial idea was to reinvigorate the Burgundian wine industry during the economic turmoil prior to World War II. The first Chapitre was held on 16 November 1934 in the Caveau Nuiton at Nuits-Saint-Georges.  It actually dates back to 1703 if you dig a little harder. 

Jeff brings these talents on many levels to help assist retailers and shoppers with their decisions and extends that past the 9-5 by offering classes that focus on the meal and the pairings in a way that offers those who join him for the experience a fun way to decide for themselves which pairings they enjoy along with his expert advice and guidance.  Born in Lithuania and settling in Fruitport Jeff has world class experience in major markets in both sides of the wine industry.  He's also got a very strong background in finance and large scale endeavors in global markets.

In Muskegon, the idea is to share some oh his knowledge in a way that's easily understood.  We're going to work to find places that serve great food and offer suggestions that can be found locally and that can make you a hit at the next dinner party or gathering, even if they are not sure about the accentuation that they are noticing in their visit?  Was it the wine?  They might never know.
