Welcome to episode 92 of Dog Blessed with Jodi Jarvis-Therrian where the topic of discussion this week is emotions. Yes, believe it or not, pets are living, breathing creatures of emotion just like we are and they can not only feel emotions on their own level, they can feel what is being projected around them and it can directly reflect in their behavior, both reactively and passively. Dog Blessed is brought to you by Clock's Timeless Pets and Must Love Dogs Pet Boutique in Grand Haven.
You can see it play out in more obvious ways at times. Let's say a friend or relative that's been away a long time comes for a visit. People are excited. You'll most likely see some more tail wagging, some barking and jumping up and down, maybe a few licks. That's a joyous emotion. Let's say there's a knock at the door at 11p or there's a startling moment in a movie that makes people react? You pet jumps....is alert and maybe runs toward the door. Emotion. They are real and apparent most of the time, but emotions in pets can also be very subtle and hard to read. Their emotions can also reflect those of their owner, so....if you are an introvert, having a pet that's a huge "people person" might be a little big of an ask. If on the other hand, you have situated yourself and your pet in and among others regularly, they probably chase after all the affection they can get. Jodi has a great discussion this week on all of this. Take a listen. It's great advice and deep knowledge.
