The Muskegon County Senior Millage - A Web Series - Fair Housing Center of West Michigan

We continue this week with our series on the Muskegon County Senior Millage and how it's work reaches out to help the older population in Muskegon County with things in a number of ways that may slip under the radar due to the size and scope of all that's included in the millage which was voted into place back in 2016 and is managed by Senior Resources of West Michigan to help assure the funding goes where it's needed. We are very fortunate to be in a community that places such value in our older residents and making sure that all that's invested is used, well, that's kind of the goal with this series.

Muskegon County Senior Millage Podcast - Safe Seniors of West Michigan

We've been through a lot over the last few years.  We've learned a lot too about what kind of information is important here in Muskegon and how people are working to find a way to get connected with it quickly and without having a lot of noise from out of town or highly slanted thought attached.  One of the things we started very early on was a group on social media called "Muskegon County Municipal News".  It was meant to be a place where local officials could share a message with our community if there was an urgent need.  We purposely kept it non political and non commercial on every level.  It's helped spread the word of the pandemic better than anything we know of here in town and while not everyone was happy with the message, it was essential.

Muskegon County Senior Millage Podcast - Introduction

We've grown a nice relationship with the Muskegon County Public Health office and with that working relationship growing, we were asked to begin a project, thankfully, that's not focused on the urgent immediate news about the pandemic.  Those reports will continue to happen, however the County has another HUGE program happening that some kinda know about, some have maybe heard of and some might not have the foggiest idea about the who what, where why and when of what's going on.  Well, on the first and last Friday of every month, we're going to work to change that!
