Christine Robere President and CEO of United Way Of The Lakeshore, has been doing great things in Muskegon County during this Covid-19 pandemic. As the year ends they continue to create marvelous programs for families in need whether it's financial, food, housing and education.


United Way has developed a new program called The Gift Of Caring. The Gift Of Caring program supports other organizations by “Helping to connect local people to connect with organizations to solve local problems.
United Way Of The Lakeshore has been partnering with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library which focuses on the love for reading for several years now. Taking Back Muskegon Inc. will be a new addition in helping push Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. This year will be the 25th anniversary. Dolly Parton will be hosting an online event on December 9, 2020 at 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. 3300 children have graduated from this program. This program not only helps improve the child's reading but it also helps create a stronger bond between the child and parent. These books are diverse and have a wide variety of kid stories which are also available in Spanish.

 
The Dolly Parton’s library is totally free all you have to do is enroll you children ages 0-5 years of age. You may also do donations to help keep the funding flowing so that the program may continue to purchase books to give away. Studies have shown that when reading to your child at the beginning of their toddler years improves their reading by 40%. They are also offering a $25.gift certificate to those that enroll, donate or even sponsor a child to The Gift Of Caring Program. You may also sponsor a child for a year for United Way of the Lakeshore also has been a big advocate for staying safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.
Christine says, that United Way of the Lakeshore is happy to be that bridge for the community to reach out to other organizations for help.
