Like so many other human need organizations, Mission for Area People has been doing what they can to make sure the ever increasing needs are met within our community.  The pandemic hit equally hard across all ends of the economic spectrum but those who rely on MAP for some gaps to be filled in when they need it had to be wondering if a non profit so small could sustain.  MAP probably had to wonder if they could sustain over the last months.  After all, it's the kind of non profit you imagine in your head when you think of charity.  It's small, it's on the side of a church in Muskegon Heights and those they serve might otherwise be forgotten without their caring and compassionate work.  We are very fortunate to have a giving community like we do, and our organizations large and small make sure no one is out.

As we work toward the rebound, some areas can use a hand for sure.  One of which is MAP's medical fund aid.  Mission for Area People keeps an account to help people who are in need of medical attention fill in the gaps.  Maybe it's a hand with a co-pay.  It might be a hand with prescription costs.  Maybe it's covering the cost of treatment to get someone to the place they need to be to be taken care of.  If you are underinsured or not insured at all, things like this add up quickly and the postponing of treatment can lead to bigger problems.  It's hard to believe that in 2021, this is still very much a reality, but for some it is. e1ba56 699e6c2fdd3e4d5885f5b6b34ab1c602 mv2Click Here for Tickets to Monsters for Meds

In the Spring, MAP has hosted "Music for Meds" in the past, which has always been a nice time with some entertainment and edible delicacies.  However, those gatherings like anyone else....they have been a little on the idle side.  So, with the need being real, and most a little more comfortable with going out some, they figured a Fall soiree would be worth a go and since it's Halloween time, what better time to monster it up a little and have a costume party twist.  Thus was born "Monsters for Meds".

The Folkert Community Hub is the place on Oct 29th.   Join us for our Halloween Fundraiser to support MAP's Medical Fund. Food from Dave's Kountry Katering with Entertainment from Plain Jane Glory. We're also having a photo booth, 50/50 raffle, costume contest with cash prizes, and a cash bar with a specialty Halloween drink.  It's going to be a night of ghoulish fun for all with such an important purpose.  Diane Stubbs is the Executive Director of this amazing organization and we sat down to catch you up on all things MAP and the party.  Take a listen.

What better time and place to wear a mask?  Share a toast for the season and enjoy the music and fun for such an amazing cause.  The look and feel of Mission for Area People is humble, but the depth of their work and the love for those they serve is very real.  An evening out at the beautiful Folkert Community Hub is a great way to help them help those in our community who just need a little something extra once in a while.  Grab some friends, grab some tickets and we'll see you there!
