Medical decisions in child custody after a divorce can be a strain on anyone, and with all we've endured over the last couple of years, and now vaccinations for COVID being available to younger people, it's a point of contention among many. Attorney Shon Cook will give you some tips.

A divorce generally happens when people can't get along, right?  Well if it wasn't going as planned while married, when it's over it can get even more disagreeable and living under a pressure cooker like we have for so long, even those who could manage some give and take might be a little less agreeable.  We too have become rather set in our ways by outside influences.  Division lines over just about anything are pretty clear cut and a lot of people are eagerly awaiting the day when not everything is one way or the other.  But, enough of the editorial commentary, the order of business today is medical decisions in shared custody and how they are made when parents disagree on the proper course.

It could be about getting the child braces, it could be about a decision for a surgical procedure.  The topic on everyone's mind however is vaccinations.  What to do with immunizing your child for COVID-19 now that it's been cleared for use.  As a bit of a disclaimer, no one here is a doctor and we don't even pretend to be one on TV.  Your first question about this should be with your family physician.  However, if there is a disagreement between parents who share custody and the disagreement is going to carry on, buckle up, you're in for a work out.  It's a case where you will be putting the decision in the hands of a judge and they will determine the outcome based on what's presented.  That's a judges job and the decision will leave one parent out.

Shon Cook explains the in's and out's of this hot button issue as well as shares what she's heard is happening in and around the state so far when it comes to the vaccination issue and shares a lot of thought about what goes into these kinds of decisions on anything medical in this weeks episode, take a listen to Saturdays With Shon on the Muskegon Channel.
