Muskegon is incredibly blessed with people who go about their work in a way that doesn't garnish a lot of attention and most of them are able to move mountains with little or nothing. It's a remarkable thing to watch a community who's had to rely on itself for so long, and the "unsung heroes" in it get things done. This is why the Community Foundation for Muskegon County takes a moment annually to highlight a local hero and add a major contribution to the cause that means so much to them. In 2022, the recipient is going to be revealed on November 10th at a reception that's free to attend and learn more about.
Along with meeting the honoree, you'll have a chance to hear Author Matt De La Pena. Matt will be speaking on his books geared toward young adults that are centered on life today. Books like "Last Stop on Market Street" and "Milo Imagines the World". Drawing on his own Mexican heritage and love for sports Matt's books have pushed boundaries and raised a few eyebrows when it comes to what John Lewis would have called "Good Trouble". Making younger people think has been a part of Matt's work and you'll be able to meet him and get books signed at the Frau!
This event is free to attend and there will be a delicious spread put on by Los Amigos and complimentary soft drinks with a cash bar available and without tipping off too much.....let's just say that when you hear the story of the recipient and the work they have going on...that you probably don't know about....you are going to stop in your tracks and say - "I didn't know my community had this". It's that incredible of an endeavor and once the award is presented, you are going to hear so much more about it right here on the Muskegon Channel.
We'd like to thank the very busy Todd Jacobs for a little time and for having us down to take a little role in the ceremony coming up. Make sure you are there! PLEASE CLICK HERE and let them know if you're coming!! They would like to plan ahead for catering and beverage service is all. No cost to the event, just a preregistration to help on the costs of things.
