The Meals on Wheels program in the Muskegon area feeds countless seniors daily with home deliveries that are available to "anyone who needs them, for as long as you need them - a week, a month, a year. Client privacy is always respected. We assist any age needing homebound meals,: according to their website. However along with those meals comes so much more, Meals on Wheels is known for making sure that no one goes hungry, but the void that is filled by someone stopping by to check on the recipient. Just the friendly face and the knowing that someone checked on them is equal to the food in a lot of cases.
In December, the DTE Energy Foundation is helping the Meals on Wheels program out with some additional funding to make the delivery of the December 15th meals a little extra special. They have provided some funding to make the menu a little more on the gourmet side. Delicious main courses, fresh salads, desserts and more all being delivered and the holiday season set off on the right foot for everyone. If you are in need of a little help with food security, it's not hard to get a hand. A call to 2-1-1 is a good start or you can call (231) 755-0434. Laura Beechnau joins me to talk a little about Meals on Wheels and the special holiday menu.
We are so very fortunate to live in a community that always manages to cover it. Where we might not have the shiny new toys and gadgets we have what it takes when it comes to taking care of what really matters. What really matters is that those who might otherwise go without have some way of knowing they are not forgotten. Be it a little better meal at the holidays courtesy of the DTE Foundation or the people who deliver food once a week or once a year to those who need it, and the companionship. Muskegon and all of it's people find a way to cover it. Thanks so very much to Laura for the few minutes to tell us more, thanks to DTE for the spiff and to all of our community who give us never ending stories like this to prove that we have a new story to tell.
