Kolton Woods is in his 3rd year at Valparaiso University studying to become a Broadcast Meteorologist, and we got him started here on the Muskegon Channel right after he graduated from Fruitport. He's using his experience here to build his portfolio, gain some experience and to be ready to hit the ground running immediately when he graduates. He's going to be an intern at WOOD-TV this summer...we think he's on the right track.
He asked for a week off for this service trip, but we said "NO". We said we'd pay him a little more to bring back some proof of what he did and to never forget that doing what's right with a job in broadcasting will always be rewarded. Here's his story.
Hurricane Ian made landfall in southwest Florida on September 28, 2022. Kolton and some Valparaiso University students volunteered over their spring break to bring hope back to the community by demolishing destroyed homes and ensuring Floridians that people do care about their well-being after such a tragic disaster. Catch a glimpse of what service is like first-hand following a natural disaster like Hurricane Ian, and how community service impacts students and those that suffered through it all.
Keep on keepin on Kolton!! We're proud of your work and where your career and heart are taking you!
