Imagine the necessity for travel to one of the foremost health care facilities in the country. Mayo Clinic comes to mind for me as I have made a few trips. While I had to be seen at Mayo, I was fortunate enough to be able to make the drive. There was time on my side and there was also plenty of ability to pay for travel and accommodations. For some, getting that kind of care affords neither time, nor money to get where they need to be and that is where Wings of Mercy comes in to help people in need be treated.
Grace Spelde is in charge of a LOT of things at Wings of Mercy, including helping schedule pilots to assist people in their transportation, event organization, fund raising, social media and on and on. Grace is like any of us. Plenty of hats to wear, and not much time to do it all, so we took as little of hers to get you the scoop as needed.
Saturday June 10th the 27th Care Affair is happening in Muskegon at Executive Air adjacent to the Muskegon County Airport. All West Michigan is invited to the 27th Annual Muskegon CareAffaire benefiting Wings of Mercy to be held at Executive Air Transport at the Muskegon County Airport on Saturday, June 10, from 8:00 AM to Noon.
This event has been a local favorite for years and a significant funding source for Wings of Mercy. The pancake breakfast, Run for Wings 5k walk/run, formation flying demonstrations by the Hooligans, static plane display, rides, and kid’s activities combine to make it a fun airport outing for the whole family. This year we are bringing back the Classic Car Show featuring the West Michigan Street Rod Association. The Muskegon Co. Airport is also offering free parking in their main terminal lot for all event attendees. The Muskegon Host Lions will provide the pancake and sausage breakfast. Breakfast Tickets $6/Person $25 For A Family Of 6 Checks, cash, and credit cards will be accepted.
You can register online for the Run for Wings 5K at https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/NortonShores/RunForWings5K. The cost is $30 and includes a pancake breakfast (optional premium t-shirt available). Same-day registration will start at 7:00 AM. Checks, cash, and credit cards will be accepted.
The Classic Car Show will feature the West Michigan Street Road Association, but anyone can participate. Call Jon at 231-557-9325 for more details.
All proceeds will benefit Wings of Mercy, a faith-based, non-profit, volunteer pilot organization dedicated to helping people in need have access to life-saving medical care by arranging free flights to distant medical facilities. Not only does this event raise much-needed funds, but it also helps us get the word out about the service we provide so we can better serve our West Michigan community.
This year it got a whole lot more personal for me, and while I am fortunate enough to not need the help, so many more are not. Please, head on out to the event Saturday and make a day of it. It's a mission that literally saves lives when they are at their most worried moment. Our thanks to Grace for once again joining us to help spread the word.
