Some have wondered if there will be a parade for Memorial Day this year in Muskegon and, yes, there is indeed a parade in Downtown Muskegon on May 27th to honor those who have served, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for all we hold dear.  I met up with Mike and Lolene Osborne just before their committee met to hear more about the event, and there were even a few surprise findings by the Osbornes as they were prepping the parade route.  Take a listen.

The parade begins at 9a sharp on Monday May 27th. This is a parade of reverence and reflection so there won't be any candy throwing, sorry kids, but it's essential too that kids learn to honor and respect those who have gone before us. The committee is actively looking for Vets of the Korean War and WWII for that honor to serve in the Grand Marshall role is you know anyone.  Area marching bands will perform, Veterans Units will be marching, and there will be other area agencies in support of the event as well.  If you would like to submit an entry, there's time.  You have until 5p on Friday May 17th to submit an entry form.  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to email the event organizers to get in the parade before Friday!

In their work to advance the parade to the Downtown business owners, Mike and Lolene found what so many others do.  The incredible emergence of Downtown Muskegon.  Avid local supporters, but equally frustrated by the lack of local media that we have, finding retail, restaurants and places of interest inside the buildings up and down Western become more of an adventure than a task and that's what you'll find too.  A parade is a great attraction and all but there's never a bad time to visit Downtown Muskegon.

After the parade on Memorial Day, the Mona Shores Marching Band will perform in the Frauenthal Center. It's free to attend and is a heartfelt way to offer some closure for the event and gratitude for those who served.  Make some plans to gather friends and relatives and offer your respects to those who've provided our freedom.
