You hear the bells at Christmas and you know that you'll soon be seeing a volunteer outside of one of your favorite shopping centers waiting to wish you a Merry Christmas in return for some change or a couple of bucks in the Red Kettle to help the Salvation Army continue their incredible outreach here in Muskegon. So, as you pass, you find the change and maybe you give it to the kids to start teaching them that being charitable is important. You know the scene and you give generously.
In the warmer months however, you hear less bells.....does The Salvation Army quit? Nope! They are working daily to provide for area families in so many ways. They have the Pathway to Hope, the food pantries, the summer camps, the outreach is incredible. So, they need to raise a few bucks in the Spring and Summer months. You'll find National Donut Day, you may hear a bell or two ringing at some of the areas bigger festivals. You can make a donation online....or you can get out and enjoy a day on the links at Westwind Golf Course in Muskegon June 2nd.
The Red Shield will be taking place! A great day out on the course, steak fry, some pretty awesome prizes up for grabs and a great cause. Help others by getting out and doing something fun on a Friday!
I was able to catch up with my old buddy Major Dan Sawka form the Salvation Army of Muskegon to talk a little more about the event, who's helping put it all on and how you can be a part of it! There's still time to get registered. Take a listen to our chat from Westwind below.
It's going to be a fun one, and it's also a great way to raise a few bucks.
