According to the Arthritis Foundation pediatric rheumatic diseases also or more commonly known as Juvenile arthritis affects almost 300,000 children in the United States. The term juvenile arthritis is a broad term for various types of juvenile arthritis that share also of the same symptoms including pain, swelling of the joints, redness and warmth. Today I was able to visit with one special little lady and her mom.

Mackenzie has Juvenile Arthritis. Her parents first noticed a bump on her hand when she was two years old. This led to many doctor appointments and a whirl wind of emotions for both Mackenzie and her parents. Mackenzie feels the affects from this disease daily. You see Mackenzie has to have a shot twice a week as well as taking meds daily. There are times when Mackenzie wakes up and has a hard time moving her legs or open and close her hands. Some days are better than others but she wants you to know that she is just like other children and can do the same things, maybe not as fast but she can do it.

Mackenzie and her Sidekicks would love for you to come and join them at one or both of her events that are happening to help raise awareness and raise money for Mackenzie in the 2018 walk to cure Arthritis in Grand Rapids on May 6th at Millennium park. The first event is Pizza & Painting for a Cure held at North Side Pub on March 24,2018 at 12-3pm. Lacey with Crate A Frame studio will be leading everyone in a painting all while you get to enjoy the pizza buffet, Cesar Salad, and breadsticks provided by Northside. This special event is a couples painting (parent or friend and me) and includes two canvases per pair along with all of the necessary supplies and professional instruction for the painting. (this also includes the food Buffet) If you do not have a "pair" you may still come and paint as the painting chosen was one that is able to be one half of a whole. Along with the painting you will also be able to have a chance to win something from the Chinese and Silent Auctions as well as a door prize.

The second event is Cocktails and Canvas for a cure held on April 13, 2018 6-9pm. This event is going to be at Create.a.Frame Studio. You will be painting for a cure all the while enjoying refreshments, appetizers a silent auction and door prizes. Tickets for this event is just $45 each and includes a 16x20 canvas, all appropriate supplies and professional instruction. It is important to know that this event is a 21year an older event.
