Let's start off with the disclosure.  Yes, I am the Mayor Pro-Tem of Roosevelt Park.  I got involved in the City Council to learn a little more about how local governments work and hopefully use some of my skills set to help maintain and even grow how our city runs, what we can offer the residents and how we can set an example for other small cities.  Roosevelt Park isn't without flaw, no community is, but I love this place.  I love the feeling of neighbors out walking the street.  I love community events, protecting the value of our homes and streets... I am proud to call Roosevelt Park home.

Earlier this week on our sister website Positively Muskegon, we met Sophia Cerniglia who's just launched her new foundation called Breathing Becomes Effortless.  She's having a kick off party for that at the Bella Maria's Event Center on Sunday, but...there might be a person or two in town who's heading north to Baldwin for the 2017 Blessing of the Bikes....so...we want to make sure they have their chance to do their part for Cystic Fibrosis too!  You can run, but you can't hide!

It's something fewer and fewer people were around for.  Time waits for no one, and we're at the stage where our "Greatest Generation" are becoming more and more of a memory.  Just the other day, I saw an article on Facebook about the oldest living WWII Vet turning 111 and planned on celebrating with cigars and whiskey.  Hey, at 111 celebrate anyway you like.

Nims Village is a volunteer initiative to enhance neighborhood development, resident success and economic opportunity.  That's the intro, and yes, it's certainly a mission statement.  Underneath all that, the idea is to bring together neighbors, community organizations and others to develop projects such as an Eco Village/ Community Center at the former Nims School site and other areas in the neighborhood like Heartshorn Marina, The Lakeshore Bike Trail and the Nims waterfront.

The start to the beach season!  If you've been down by Pere Marquette recently, you'll see all the normal Spring signs.  There are plenty of home owners offering as much free sand as you like, The Deck is beginning to show some signs of life and people walking up to see if they are open yet.  You'll also see plenty of large machines to get the sand groomed, the streets swept up and our beautiful sugar sand beach open for people to enjoy from near and far.  It's such a treasure to Muskegon and one that's been seeing an uptick in activity for the last couple of years.

We've promised you some original programming and we're very thankful to Northern Michigan Outfitters for saying "Yes" to running their show on The Muskegon Channel.  Rory Rought and his crew are staying right here in Michigan this time and turkeys.....well, they had best be watching out.  In fact, right here in Muskegon County is where they filmed this second episode.

The only thing missing will be the sound of the engines firing after the National Anthem...other than that, we're going to have a brand new event in Downtown Muskegon this year and it's going to be a heart pounding race!  The inaugural Port City Criterium is a bicycle race that will take place May 13th and you're invited to come check out this great new event and be part of something very exciting in Muskegon.  Yes...I am talking to you, the one who's always saying "There's never anything to do in Muskegon"....you know who you are!  :)

It's know as Michigan's Most Beautiful Mile.  Situated between Muskegon and North Muskegon, the Veterans Memorial Park is surrounded by the Causeway.  It connects the two municipalities, it's a popular commuter route and it holds the history of Muskegon's dedication to freedom honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedom we all hold so dear.

At the Muskegon Channel, we're out to help spread the word about the great things that go on in and around Muskegon.  If you read the "slug line" where it says "We have a new story to tell" we kinda mean just that and think that showing off what we've got is a great way to build a little self confidence in everyone and you know too... there's something cool about being "on the show."  We're out taping our own stuff, but there's a group of guys from right here in Muskegon that have been putting on a show for a while, and since we've got room for them, let's get you up to speed with Back 40 Predators.
