Welcome back to Muskegon by the stars and the latest forecast! Hello, my starry-eyed friends! As promised, here’s the scoop on Barbault’s Basket.
Last month I talked a little bit about Barbault’s Basket and because I wasn’t able to go into much detail then, I’d like to focus a little more on it this time. To recap, Barbault’s Basket is a rare alignment between the outer planets; Pluto, Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus, that form a geometric pattern in the shape of a basket. All four outer planets cluster closely around the 4th degree of their respective signs (4/4/4/4), forming a symmetrical basket or cradle shape via a mix of trines, sextiles, and a central Jupiter-Pluto opposition. While it was strongest from July 19th to July 21st, its effects will last upwards of two years.
Together these energies work synergistically, especially in the areas of innovation, spirituality, and expansion. It’s an important pattern, because it has the potential for some major shifts, both collectively as well as personally. If the current thinking on this configuration is correct, it has great potential for having long-term effects on the collective as well as in our personal lives, being called one of the most significant astrological collections of transits in our lifetimes. It is considered by many astrologers to be a positive turning point in the shift away from the heavy, chaotic global cycles we have experienced since 2020.
As mentioned previously, it is named after Andre Barbault, a French astrologer known for his exceptionally accurate predictions, although the name was coined later on. Barbault, citing the 1917 takeover by the Russian Communist Party during the Saturn-Neptune conjunction, believed that a corresponding shift in power would occur decades later. In 1955, he predicted there would be a considerable shake-up connected to the Kremlin around 1989. In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell, giving credence to the accuracy of his prediction. However, he is most remembered for his prediction of an impending crisis in 2020, which some astrologers felt was related to, or even predicted, the pandemic and its aftermath. Given his accurate “hits”, the current grouping of planets in July has brought a lot of excitement and speculation. Some astrologers seem to romanticize it, suggesting we will be entering into some sort of Golden Age. Others give a more balanced view, whereby the “basket” heralded in the beginnings of a positive shift in consciousness worldwide with the potential for redistribution of resources and shakeup of the power structures that began in 2020.
Barbault himself didn’t interpret this configuration with a pie-in-the-sky mentality. He viewed it more in terms of a restructuring process and new orientation within the collective. He foresaw the bottoming out of the depressive cycle and possibilities of power shifts and structural changes. While this pattern has positive attributes and possibilities; it was not described conclusively within a New Age philosophy; ushering in a time of harmony, global peace. Barbault only said that structural change was unfolding. With this configuration there is also a potential for conflict or testing the boundaries against established rules. We may have already seen the start of it; based on growing social disillusionment in power structures and the erosion of structures over the past decade.
Being a realist and with upwards of 30 years being an astrologer, yet as someone who tries to keep a positive mindset, I would love to believe everything is going to be a bed of roses and that the “basket” holds only good things. But here, I have to take a more pragmatic approach. As far as astrology goes, we have to take into consideration the potential for both positive and negative energies in these groupings and while Barbault’s basket may not signal a utopian world, neither does it predict doom and gloom. It more likely means dramatic transformation in the collective; with the opportunity to envision and work towards a more harmonious, thriving world as well as how we live our lives. This is where my hope lies. It’s all up to us.
Here’s what Barbault’s Basket means for the signs.
Aries, this may be a stressful time for you as your optimism and belief in yourself may be at a low point for a time. However, you also may find that you have more persistence in achieving your life goals that you have set for yourself. You will likely take this time to dig in and plug ahead with your long-term goals. Jupiter’s conjunct with Saturn will help to strengthen your willpower and further your understanding of what resources you have to draw on in the future. One excellent use of these energies is to become more consciously aware of your true goals in life.
Taurus, You are becoming more aware that your life is undergoing an important transition, and beginning an entirely new way of looking at things. Old habits and concerns become less important. However this may also create some stress as you face uncertainty in which direction to go on your life path As you seek to make the needed changes that your deeper self desires, you may be pulled back towards the established patterns that brought security. It benefits you to embrace this uncertainty as you move towards finding a balance.
Gemini, you may go through some major changes in your life over the next few years. Within this time your understanding of who you are is likely to undergo transformation. Your need to discard behaviors or situations that no longer serve their purpose has come into your conscious awareness.This changes may be disruptive yet visionary. Communication and your mental processes are emphasized and come into focus in a real way. However, it is best to not scatter your energies in many directions. Focus on the process.
Cancer, you are capable of great persistence and self-reflection at this time. This may be a good time for making plans for the future, as they are more realistic and workable now. You may feel that these changes are slow in coming. However, it will benefit you to use caution and not go faster than is possible. This impatience may signal an almost mystical longing for freedom and spontaneity as a new way of being has come into your conscious awareness. There may be a strong urge to embrace your own unique expression of yourself.
Leo, your value system, especially how you view material possessions and your finances may radically change. This change in attitude may be the result of some soul-searching that has been going on for some time. These upheavals to the status quo may well result in a renewed sense of your own identity and what it is that you truly value. It will benefit you to go with the flow with this process; rather than trying to hold onto outdated beliefs. It is better to go forward with this process, rather than trying to hold on to values that no longer serve you.
Virgo, you have reached a certain level of completion as it relates to your life goals as well as your beliefs. With this, your aspirations, plans for the future as well as your spirituality are moving into a new phase. You may have a lot of optimism now and feel ready to take on the world. There is good potential for prosperity and good fortune especially in areas where you can show off your good side and be of help to others, possibly in the area of higher learning, or fine arts. However, be mindful not to overextend yourself.
Libra, there are important changes happening in your life right now, transforming your sense of spirituality as well as your ideals. You may even have a sense of being reborn and there may be a heightened sense of being a vital part of all life. Past habits that no longer serve you will end or fade in importance. This can be a very important time for you, as the urge to examine your life path and be your own unique self comes into your awareness. However, these profound changes may also result in some restlessness as your strong desire to be different is actualized.
Scorpio, many areas of your life could significantly alter as the natural processes of decline and change are making themselves known. With this, there is increased potential for far-reaching changes in the central patterns of your life. Take heart, as stressful as this may seem now, these are in your best interest in the long term. How you perceive yourself may also change as a result and you may find yourself with tremendous resolve for renewal and transformation. You may emerge from this freer and more confident in your true life path than previously.
Sagittarius, you may identify more with your dream-life and fantasies than the real world for a time as logic does not harmonize well with your personality right now. It may be that more is required of you now or that you are more responsive to others than you have been. In any event, this may alter how you perceive yourself. This may be a good time to do some inner exploration, such as meditation or shadow work. Many things may be changing for you; either by outside forces or your own internal compass. Go with the flow, instead of fighting it.
Capricorn, situations that you encounter may require that you give up your normal perceptions and control. Whether this is the result of an external event or not, you may lose confidence in yourself as a result. The hidden parts of your psyche are likely to be energized now. However, oftentimes, we encounter situations that seem to be negative or somehow unwelcome; but are in fact to our benefit in the long run. In fact, there is great potential for transforming your urge for self-renewal and regeneration as well as reconnecting with your inner self.
Aquarius, You are actively working on finding your own unique way of expressing yourself. With this, you may seek out inspiration from many sources and places. While these creative urges may be liberating, it may also feel disruptive to assert your creativity in such a distinct way. This could mean radical or innovative changes in how artists or creatives approach their work but can also mean profound changes in close relationships. In any event, this is a time for letting go of old patterns, finding your inner voice as well as embracing what speaks to you.
Pisces, this may be a time of uncertainty or confusion for you as the familiar structures of your life are upset by a new awareness. This may have you feeling somewhat unsettled and it may be difficult to tell which direction to go in your life. Your values may also undergo profound effects. You seem to be in the process of reevaluating everything you once held true. Your cherished myths, which may be the ideals by which you live, are falling away. Thus, a new foundation for re-imagining the fundamental concepts of your life must be found.
