Growing up in the Bronx and living in apartments I never had a pet (not even a goldfish). Always wanted a pet but they just weren’t allowed in the buildings we lived in. As soon as my family moved to Michigan (in 1976), I begged mom and dad to get a dog. I’ve always loved dogs and they seem to like me too.
We got my first forever friend Angel at our local shelter and I’ve been an advocate for adopting ever since. Seeing all those cute faces in those cages made me sad, no pet should have to live like that. Here in Muskegon we have several shelters including the one near and dear to my heart Big Lake Humane Society.
From their free pet food pantry to their walk in clinic, they do their best to take care of pets who otherwise might have to go without food or medical care due to their owners financial problems. Without their help these pets could end up back in a shelter (which are ALL at capacity). Myself and Mrs LT adopted our baby boy Kozmo at Big Lake Humane back in January of this year and we love the big Moose (that’s the nickname I gave him) and so I try and do whatever I can to help them out.
Here is my very first interview on the Muskegon Channel and it’s with Alexis Robertson their executive director. She came up with the idea of doing this “Pedal For Paws” event to help several local shelters out. All the money collected will be split evenly between the four participating shelters Big Lake Humane, Pound Buddies, Heaven Can Wait and Faithful to Felines.Please help my friends out on Saturday August 15th by joining in on all the fun of Pedal For Paws starting at Hot Rod Harley Davidson in downtown Muskegon at noon. If you can’t ride you can always volunteer to help out at the various stopping points along the route.
